"The strong sense that anything could happen, any time, anywhere..."
A Song for the Zombie Apocalypse
The inspiration was sparked in 2020, a time in the world when the pervasiveness of bad news was becoming overwhelming with global health, environment and politics all rapidly losing stability and the strong sense that anything could happen, any time, anywhere.
Feraliza suddenly had the line, "Life...it's a dangerous game" rolling around in her brain and once it was written on paper the rest followed as naturally as sunshine follows the rain.
From the beginning the words refused to fit into any standard structure and lent themselves to quite a quirky rhythm and flow.

Today we are releasing three complimentary versions of Too Much Brains:
- The first video above is a compilation of footage from the every day life and creative processes of Feraliza, with extra audio visualizations for a window into the more technical side, for those who are interested!
- Below is a video with only the raw footage without the audio visualizations, so you can more easily focus on the homemade Feraltech cinematography.
- Finally there is a high quality audio version of the song available on Patreon and Reverbnation for streaming or purchase.

The Production
The video with Feraltech visuals shows the FL studio Mixer along the bottom and from top left
- An oscilloscope, showing the audio wave form
- A vector scope showing the stereo field
- A spectrum analyzer showing the amplitude of different frequencies over time
The Guitar is Feraliza's old faithful acoustic, played all the way through, but distortion has been added in one section.
Vocal effects have also been added by sending the signal to a second channel with effects and automating the channel volume. Look out for the faders moving on their own during the video on a few different channels.
Why all the bass channels?
You are right, there is only one bass. That bass has different parts though. It is split into sub bass, which is centered in the stereo mix (see the vector scope) and everything higher than about 100-150Hz, which is sent to right and left. The idea was to clear most of the sounds that could interfere with the vocals out of the middle of the mix, and also to create a sense of movement and space, as the filter closes on the high frequency content, with sustained notes focusing into a pure sin wave straight to the chest.
The Synth sounds are shimmery and wide, providing a smooth texture that breathes around the grittier timbre of the guitar with an ethereal quality.

The words were added using a text to wavetable generator with various effects and layered with a real Feraliza vocal sample of the same words with some more effects.
The footage was mostly taken inside my home in Invercargill, but also contains some special scenes of moments with friends. Most of the time the hands are the part of the humans which are focused on, rather than faces.
The first half is quite introverted, while the second half goes outside and gets amongst it.
This track is definitely worthy of at least a second and third watch and listen to take in all the details and savour the vibe!
Too Much Brains, Lyrics by Feraliza
Oh life,
It's a dangerous game
All chasing our dreams
Like moths to the flame
And we're all insane
Every last one of us
Too much brains,
Not enough consciousness
Running around like we own all this
Don't even know what we have while we're missing it
Life
Gone too soon
You reached for the moon
And fell into the stars
I still see you there
Ride, with you face to the sky
And the wind in your hair
On the other side
I will meet you there
After I'm done with this
Life
Such a privileged life
We're all living it
Strange how we keep coming back to the same old, same old
Life
Such a privileged life
We're all living it
Strange how we keep coming back to the same old, same old
Life
It's a dangerous game
All chasing our dreams
Like moths to the flame
And we're all insane
Every last one of us
Too much brain
Not enough consciousness
Running around like we own all this
Don't even know what we have while we're missing it
Oh, Oh, Oooh
Oh, Oh, Ooooooh
Life
It's a dangerous game
All chasing our dreams
Like moths to the flame
And we're all insane
Every last one of us
Too much brain
Not enough consciousness
Running around like we own all this
Don't even know what we have while we're missing it
Life
